Our Half Term Getaway

In all the time Alex and I have been together we have never managed to go on holiday together. I know, shocker! We have had time off work together and stayed overnight in a travel lodge once so we thought it high time that this travesty was rectified. We talked of a getaway to Malta, where we would lounge around on the beach, on the pool side, book an all inclusive hotel package with access to a spa. It seemed too good to be true and perhaps it was! It was only when it dawned on me that the expense would most likely outway the positives that I started to think a little bit smaller.

I absolutely love Autumn in Britain. The beautiful rusty tones of the countryside, long walks, pumpkin lattes, Halloween, a new series of Stranger Things is on on Netflix as of today, bonfire not nights, cosy outfits and cuddles on the sofa, hot soup and stews... I mean does it get better? So why oh why would I want to leave all that behind? I put my mind to planning the perfect getaway in the Lakes. I searched on Canopy and Stars and found us a beautiful Shepherd's hut in a woodland clearing called Blencathra. I fell in love. Sorry, we fell in love....but mainly me!

I picture it to be like something out of Country Living Magazine! The hut is solar powered with a separate cabin for our bathroom and kitchen. We have a log burning stove and rustic looking kettle with a fire pit outside. The local pubs are only 20 minutes away by foot and there are some great walks in the area. I am so excited. We travel up/escape on Monday! I will be packing tonnes of cozy knits and leggings and we did a one pan shop of beans, soups, stews and crusty bread rolls. We will be placing our order tonight for our breakfast basket too!

I think we both need a relaxing holiday such as this. I have been having a hard time lately and it has affected us both. My family cat, George, sadly passed away and it has hit us all pretty hard so we have been down in the dumps as of late. We have both been working so hard too and really just need to spend some quality time away from the city.

So watch this space! We won't have WiFi but hopefully I can schedule a few posts while we are away and send them from one of Health Banks local watering holes!
