What I am reading
I absolutely love to read but don't set myself enough time to do it. I am fully aware that I should put down the remote, the tablet or my phone and pick up a book instead. Especially when I have so many amazing books unread on my shelf. I tend to read on my lunch break at work, when I am in the bath and just before I go to bed. Due to this it can take me a while to get through a book but I find it very worthwhile when I turn over the last page on a good one. I like to read lighthearted books which have a twist at the end. Recent reads that fit the bill were 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' by Gail Honeyman and 'Are You Experienced?' by William Sutcliffe which I will hopefully get round to reviewing in separate blog posts. So below are the titles I have at the moment ready to divulge, some of which I have already started.
#1 The Keeper of Lost Things
Author: Ruth Hogan
Reading Status: Finished yesterdayBought or Gifted: Birthday Gift from a friend
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It looks into the life of Anthony Peardew who has spent half his life collecting items that he finds while away from the house to atone for a mistake he made a long time ago. With his time running out he leaves his house and all of his possessions to his assistant Laura, a very believable and relatable character, entrusting her to return all the lost items to their owners. The way this book is written is beautiful. It describes everything with such detail that you start to feel as though you are there in the setting with the characters. Wonderfully written and I even shed a tear at the end. I can sometimes get disappointed by books with the style of their endings but this one was perfect.
#2 Stop Look Breathe Create
Author: Wendy Ann Greenhalgh
Reading Status: Page 1
Bought or Gifted: Birthday Gift to myself from Oliver Bonas
I have not started this yet but have it on my desk to help if I have no inspiration. I love to paint and sketch and there is nothing worse than when I have the urge to be creative but have zero inspiration or ideas. I bought this as a treat to myself to hopefully provide those moments with the inspiration I need. This book teaches you to press the pause button on life, become aware of the beauty around you through all your senses, connect with the tide of life and express those experiences through different mediums. Whether it is photography, drawing or writing this book gives you 30 stimulating projects to encourage mindfulness and to teach you to enjoy your creativity freely.
#3 The Starving Artist Cookbook
Author: Sara Zin
Reading Status: Page 1
Bought or Gifted: Gift from my sister from Norton Publishers
I am currently trying to build a cookery book collection and have all my foodie and recipie books on a shelf in the kitchen along with this one. What I love the look of most in this book is that all the recipies are illustrated instead of photographed which is something you don't often see. It is so beautiful and the recipies are definately of beginner level as it is aimed at first time cooks. I cannot wait to try the recipies.
#3 Bolt and Keel
Author: Kayleen Vanderree & Danielle Gumbley
Reading Status: Page 1
Bought or Gifted: Gift from my sister from Norton Publishers
This book follows the Instagram stars Bolt and Keel on an unforgettable journey backpacking through the scenic Pacific Northwest with the avid hikers who adopted them. Kitted out in tiny matching life jackets, rain coats and cozy scarves, there is no mountain too high or trail too rough for these adventure cats.
