Reminiscing Over Pink Fizz: Our Story
As I lie here with my legs across Alex's knees, glass of pink fizz in hand and a mini box of chocolate hearts resting on my belly I smile at this wonderful man who tipped my life upside down, in the best possible way!
One dull evening on the 20th of May 2016 I decided to download a free online dating app called Bumble. I decided this out of sheer boredom and the fact that I had at this point been single for 3 years and felt it was high time I met somebody. After a few minutes of swiping left and right, laughing at some real posers and turning my nose up at some guys who were trying way to hard with their dating profiles, my screen landed on this boy called Alex. He looked pretty normal from his profile pictures and I liked that in his bio he wrote, "attempting to love the gym." I found it funny. So I swiped right. The Bumble dating app leaves communication up to the girl so it was all on me whether I chose to message this guy or not but in 24 hours, with no message, the swiped guy would disappear forever! So I sent a generic, "Hey" to set the ball rolling...and Alex replied.
We chatted about all sorts across 4 days before Alex suggested meeting and going on a date. I chose a day date in Preston with the possibility of food after (only if the date went well) A week later on the 29th of May 2016, there I stood, dolled up wearing my best friend's dress, at the feet of the Thomas Winckley statue, on Winckley Square in Preston. Alex was delayed by a late train and messaged me straight away to let me know. He felt bad that he wasn't giving off the best first impression with his tardiness. When he arrived though, he was completely forgiven. Alex looked better looking in real life and at this point I commended my taste in men.
We strolled in the sun through Avenham Park. We walked and talked and learnt all about each other's careers, likes, dislikes, our families and ambitions. Our date went on for at least 4 hours until we found ourselves sat, hand in hand, on the grassy slope by the Japanese Garden in the park overlooking the pond. This was were we had our first kiss. It tingled and was in no way awkward at all! It was perfect!
With the date going so well Alex suggested we went to Pizza Express for some tea and he ended up paying. We said our goodbyes and then messaged each other for the rest of the night and the following week. Our 2nd and 3rd dates took place in Avenham Park again on the 4th and 5th of June and before I knew it I was on the train to Blackburn to go to Alex's house for the first time! We both knew that this was it but just to clarify matters I remember asking him if we could be a couple (cringe).
From here we both met each other's parents, celebrated our birthdays together, met each other's extended family and became each other's go to plus ones for any function. We got 2 fish together, and some giant African Land Snails and supported each other through our career changes. Eventually Alex took the plunge and asked me to move in with him after 7 months of dating. We hosted Christmas for his family that year. Then there was our first Valentine's day and our 1 year anniversary. We got our lovely cat called Pippin, went on holiday together and had another set of birthdays and Christmas's.
Alex is like no one I have ever met. He is so honest and loving and never fails to make me smile. He makes me laugh till my sides hurt and understands me in a way no other man ever has. I truly believe that he is my soulmate and it may sound cheesy but I truly believe that we will spend the rest of our lives together. He is my one and I cannot imagine being with anyone else.
So on this day I would like to wish Alex a truly Happy Valentine's Day, with all the love I can possibly give.
And Happy Valentine's Day to you too dear reader. I hope it has been a wonderful day filled with love.
Love,
Blue Sky
