Frosty White Rabbits

Yesterdays Thoughts
The first of March. Another chapter to our books and a whole realm of possibilities. The phrase 'White Rabbits' is usually said by people on the first day of a new month to bring them luck and our Rabbits are certainly white in East Lancashire with snow falling none stop and covering the roads, gardens and roof tops. Unlike when I was growing up, I find I don't enjoy snow anymore. As a child I would be straight outdoors, togged up in my woollies making wonky snow men and snow angels. As a adult I moan about the inconvenience, the condition of the roads, the frozen pipes and the cold. Really I should be appreciating how beautiful it looks and how lucky I am to have a roof over my head, central heating and plenty of warm clothes and hot drinks on supply. I can only pray that those who don't have adequate heating, supplies or a roof over their head at all manage to find somewhere warm and safe to sleep and to be. For all the happiness snow can bring to children and families through play, sledging and snowball fights it brings hardship on others for its extreme conditions. I realise that we have a tendency to panic about the weather but that is only because we are not used to it. We don't often have to experience snow which is why loaves of bread are swiped off the shelves and milk is bought in bulk. If we just calmed down and took each day and each disaster as it comes we may be able to deal with this crisis a bit better. There seems to be such a rushed atmosphere throughout our borough; a rush to get the bins out, a rush to drive to work but if we stopped rushing and took everything a bit slower there might be less panic and less of a crisis because we would be able to deal with this beast from the East more easily. We need to pause and give ourselves more time.

Batten Down the Hatches
The snow appears to have mostly melted today but the beast is not completely satisfied yet and is tearing across the county in the form of a ferocious gale. The roof is creaking, the trees are loosing all their smaller branches and bins are being blown to the wrong houses. What a week to run out of hairspray? My hair is as wild as the wind today! The wind can be just as dangerous as the snow and ice and can sometimes cause even more damage to fences, houses and even cars. This kind of weather is perfect for staying home all weekend and reading books or blogging which is what I aim to do. We have some Scout training on Sunday to go to but apart from that I am going to try and stay indoors snuggled up with coffee and books. I hope everyone else manages to stay safe and warm and that there isn't too much damage caused by the beast and storm Emma who make the most formidable team.

Don't blow away!

Love
